The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008)- [

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor stars Brendan Fraser reprising his role as explorer Rick O'Connell, along with his son Alex (Luke Ford), wife Evelyn (Maria Bello), and brother-in-law Jonathan (John Hannah). The two parents are now retired, but they must stop the resurrected tyrannical Han, the Dragon Emperor (Jet Li), a mummy awoken from a 2,000-year-old curse, and whose army was found by 18-year old Alex. The Emperor now wishes to rebuild his empire, and threatens to plunge the world into his merciless, unending service with his Terracotta Army. The undead Terracotta Army faces another, smaller, raised-from-the-dead army made of the Dragon Emperor's enemies, who were burried under the Great Wall of China.

Batman star Christian Bale arrested on assault allegations

LONDON, England (AP) -- Batman star Christian Bale was arrested Tuesday over allegations of assault, British media reported.

British media had reported that Bale's mother and sister complained they were assaulted by the 34-year-old actor at the Dorchester Hotel in London on Sunday night, a day before the European premiere of his latest film, "The Dark Knight."

The women made the allegation at a local police station in southern England on Monday, Britain's Press Association news agency said. It later said Bale had been arrested, citing "police sources."

Asked whether Bale was in custody, a police spokesman did not refer to him by name but said: "A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault."

The spokesman spoke anonymously in line with force policy and refused to go into more detail. British police do not name suspects before they are formally charged.

U.S.-based representatives for Bale didn't immediately return messages seeking comment. Repeated phone calls to Bale's London representative went unanswered.

The Sun newspaper said police didn't question the actor Monday because they didn't want to interfere with the premiere of the movie.

Wales-born Bale first made a splash as the child star of Steven Spielberg's "Empire of the Sun" in 1987. His screen credits also include "American Psycho," "The Machinist" and "Batman Begins."

In "The Dark Knight," Bale reprises the role of wealthy playboy Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting alter-ego Batman, a brooding vigilante superhero still scarred by the murder of his parents.

The film, which stars the late Heath Ledger as Batman's nemesis The Joker, took in a record $158.4 million at the box office in its opening weekend in the U.S. last week.

Thank you!

Review: 'Dark Knight' a stunning film

According to a Russian proverb, God makes the priests. Jesters come from the devil. You won't have any trouble believing that aphorism when you see Heath Ledger's mesmerizing performance as the Joker in "The Dark Knight," Christopher Nolan's hotly anticipated and often brilliantly executed follow-up to "Batman Begins."

His face caked in cracked white greasepaint, his smile a grotesque red lipstick scar, kohl rimming his eyes, the Joker is a cruel kind of clown, the kind that is only interested in the last laugh.

Slouched in his purple suit, Ledger gives him a lopsided shuffle, a permanently craning neck and an insinuating, deceptively neighborly voice. But there's something reptilian about the way his tongue flicks through his pursed lips like a pickpocket. He's hungry for trouble, a maniac for mayhem -- and in Gotham City, where crime is still running wild, he can make himself right at home.

Ledger dominates this movie as a living presence, a live wire, dangerous and unpredictable. It's an astonishing performance, as extravagant and free ("deranged" might be a better word) as his Ennis Del Mar in "Brokeback Mountain" was inhibited and tongue-tied.

And "The Dark Knight" takes him -- and its world -- very seriously.

What is L-Carnitine ?

Even more than Batman himself, the Joker would usually scream "camp" (and has in the TV series and other movies) but Nolan refuses to go there. His Gotham is cement and glass, a "real" city not so different from what we might find in any contemporary action thriller. (Chicago doubles for Batman's metropolis.)

Unlike Tim Burton or Joel Schumacher, who directed previous Batman films, Nolan favors location work over studio artifice, and he seems determined to keep the computer-generated imagery within the bounds of gravity. Even the fetishistic attention to Batman's toys -- his suit, his weaponry and transport -- emphasizes utility and design; this is not a superhero in the supernatural sense. (He may not be a hero, either, according to the serious-to-a-fault script by Nolan and his brother Jonathan.)

"Batman Begins," which came out in 2005, was about the politics of fear, the power of nightmares. Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) overcame his own phobia to turn fear back on the fear mongers and restore hope to Gotham.

In "The Dark Knight" (Nolan must have been tempted to add "of the Soul" to the title), the Joker might be his shadow or his evil twin. In some sick way, they need each other.

"You complete me," the Joker lisps to Batman, mimicking (mocking?) "Jerry Maguire."

The word is nowhere stated, but this Joker is unmistakably a terrorist -- he blows up hospitals, rigs bombs to commuter ferries, burns his own ill-gotten gains. (He even manages to put Gotham's crime syndicates under his thumb.) That makes Batman a kind of one-man Department of Homeland Security. And if he has to ride roughshod over civil liberties to get the job done -- eavesdropping on the entire city's cell phone data, for example -- then so be it.
Advertisement:

To their credit, neither Nolan nor Bruce Wayne is comfortable with this glorified vigilante figure. However, the only legitimate alternative turns out to be a civic crusader, District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart).

Dent, who carries around a double-headed coin, may seem honorable, but he was once known as "Two-Faced Harvey." With whom will he cast his lot? That's the movie's ultimate ideological battleground.

Unfortunately, if Dent gives the movie a classic character arc, Eckhart's disappointingly bland performance fails to nail the narcissism that must be the flip side to his zeal, making his ultimate about-face hard to accept.

That's the film's most obvious flaw. Whenever the Joker and Batman are in the vicinity, the movie hums with finely tuned dread and anticipation. But the longer it goes on (and yes, it does go on too long), Dent triangulates the equation, ultimately pulling it out of whack.

Still, for the most part, "The Dark Knight" is an exceptionally smart, brooding picture with some terrific performances. In a summer when action overwhelms intelligence (and even good sense), here's a movie that works on many levels. It even features the single most awesome truck stunt I've ever seen.

And though Ledger's tragic death in January can't help but cast a morbid pall over the proceedings -- and that's saying something, given some of the film's plot points -- when he's on the screen the movie lights up. It's a bravura turn. I'll be surprised if Ledger doesn't get a posthumous Oscar for it.

Angelina Jolie gives birth to twins

NICE, France (AP) -- Brad Pitt was emotional but calm, Angelina Jolie laughed and chatted.

The world's most famous celebrity couple were joined in emotion during the birth of their twins -- a boy and a girl -- and all "are doing marvelously well," the doctor who delivered the babies in a seaside hospital on the French Riviera said Sunday.

The newborns -- Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, born one minute apart Saturday evening -- are the ultimate million-dollar babies, with experts estimating their first photos will fetch a fortune.

"In the celebrity world, it seems to be the double second coming," said Darryn Lyons, owner of Big Pictures, a photo agency in London.
For now, mother, father and newborns are resting out of the public eye on the fifth floor of the Lenval hospital, behind blue mirrored windows that provide sweeping views of Nice's sun-drenched beaches, but that are specially treated to deflect the prying lenses of paparazzi.
Jolie's obstetrician, Dr. Michel Sussmann, said the 44-year-old Pitt was at Jolie's side during the delivery, looking on as the doctor performed a Caesarean section to deliver Knox, weighing in at 2.28 kilograms (5.03 pounds) and Vivienne, who weighed 2.27 kilogram (5 pounds).
"He was my assistant," Sussmann joked.

"He was very happy. ... The emotion was very strong for him," Sussmann told reporters on the hospital steps. "I felt the emotion of both the mother and the father. Angelina Jolie was speaking, was laughing with her husband. They were happy."

"The mother, the babies, the father are doing marvelously well," he said.
Sussmann said the Caesarean was moved forward from its originally planned date "for medical reasons" so the babies could be born "in the best conditions." The doctor did not elaborate.
He said Jolie, 33, is expected to stay in the hospital for a few more days and that she now needs rest. The four other Jolie-Pitt children -- Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; and Shiloh, 2 -- have not yet seen their new sister and brother, he said.

The doctor said he believed the baby girl's middle name was chosen in honor of Jolie's mother, actress Marcheline Bertrand, who died in January 2007 after a 7 1/2-year battle with cancer.
News of the births attracted a small crowd of fans hoping to snap a photo of Pitt -- or any of their celebrity friends stopping by to pay a visit. None appeared, but the mayor of Nice delivered the twin's birth certificates, which he later displayed to reporters, with the family's approval, showing Pitt's scrawling WBP, for his full name William Brad Pitt.

"The father is having one of the happiest moments of his life, like any father, especially when they have the joy of having two children from such a wonderful wife as Angelina Jolie," Mayor Christian Estrosi said after the brief official visit, which spared Pitt the gauntlet of paparazzi that would accompany any trip to City Hall.

"The mother is doing fine. She is smiling a lot. She is as happy as the father," Estrosi said.
The twins' arrival has spurred a rash of speculation about the price of the first "official" snaps.
Nice Matin, the hometown daily in the Riviera city in the south of France, put the twins' worth at more than $11 million. It first broke news of the birth and reported Sunday that the couple have sold the rights for the first photo of their newly expanded family to a U.S. publication, which it did not name, and that the proceeds would go to charity.

"I've never known a set of pictures to be worth this amount of money," said Lyons, the owner of Big Pictures. He estimated that the twins' official photos will be worth between $15 million and $20 million.

The only other photos that "would possibly come that close is Britney Spears giving birth to an alien," he said.

Veteran London-based celebrity publicist Max Clifford estimated the first photos could fetch 10 million pounds -- roughly euro12 million or $20 million -- "which would make it the biggest baby deal ever."

"These kind of pictures sell lots of magazines," he said. "It's a 10-million-pound ($20 million) gamble as to whether the ends justify the means. But obviously it's a very calculated risk because whoever lands the photos will have a lot of experience with the popularity of mum and dad."

Paparazzi have been following the couple through southern France since the Cannes film festival in May, snapping shots of the family on an outing to Eze beach and sticking close as they set up household in Correns, 60 miles (100 kilometers) from Nice. But so far the couple has evaded the paparazzi when it counted, arriving undetected at the Lenval clinic two weeks before the birth.

Camila Alves and Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey and girlfriend of two years Camila Alves have welcomed a son Monday night, his rep Alan Nierob confirms to PEOPLE. The baby – the first child for both – was born at 6:22 p.m. in Los Angeles, weighing in at 7 lbs., 4 oz.

"They're so happy!" said a close pal.

In January PEOPLE's former Sexiest Man Alive announced the couple were expecting on his website. "Camila and I made a baby together...," he wrote at the time. "We are stoked and wowed."

McConaughey's oldest brother, Rooster, shared their elation. "Oh, it's going to be fun!" he told PEOPLE. "He'll make a really good dad because he's got a lot of patience. I'm excited for him. It's about time."

Alves, a model and handbag designer, recently told PEOPLE she plans to take time off once the baby arrives. "More important than anything is that I have a peaceful life and a peaceful home," she said.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban Welcome a Baby Girl

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban Welcome a Baby Girl

Nicole Kidman and her husband, Keith Urban, have welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, born Monday morning in Nashville, PEOPLE has confirmed.

"Husband Keith was by Nicole's side, and mother and baby are very well," said spokesman Paul Freundlich, who added that the couple were "delighted" to make the announcement. He also said the baby girl weighed 6 lbs., 7.5 oz.

The pregnancy was first announced in January. Kidman has two other children with her former husband Tom Cruise: Isabella, 15, and Connor, 13.

In the days leading up to the birth, the couple – who celebrated their second wedding anniversary on June 25 – didn't stray from their normal routine in and around Nashville, where they reside in a gated community.

From early morning stops at a local Starbucks for warm drinks to a little sweat at the gym later in the day (Kidman was a regular at spin and yoga classes during her pregnancy), the couple remained low-key. "She's never been happier and healthier," says a close family friend.

"She is absolutely radiant and enjoying nesting and homemaking with Keith at their new home in Nashville."

But getting ready for their baby was a priority. Urban admitted he was learning a new vocabulary for fatherhood and doing Lamaze lessons. "He doesn't know the name [of the classes], but he has been very good at it!" Kidman told a local radio station on June 24. The new parents also bought a couple of books to help them along: Pocket Dad: Everyday Wisdom and Your Pregnancy, Week By Week. "The unknown excites me a lot," Urban told reporters in May. "What kind of feelings will fatherhood bring? I'm sure I can't even imagine, but I am really looking forward to finding out."

Breaking News: Gretchen Barretto talks

After almost a month-long hiatus from the spotlight, the very controversial Gretchen Barretto is back. During her taping for an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya, ABS-CBN.com caught up with Gretchen who was sporting a totally different look. Instead of her usual designer clothes, bags, and accessories, she had something a little more low profile.

Wearing a loose blouse and tapered skirt and her porcelain-fair skin brushed brown, Gretchen was playing the role of a woman married to man who’s down on his luck (portrayed by Ton Ton Gutierrez) and mostly depends on his mother. When the family gets into trouble, Gretchen’s character seeks help from the mayor of the province (played by Phillip Salvador) with whom she later falls in love.

It was a tough for La Greta to pull through every scene since she hasn't done acting for TV for the longest time. She revealed that her last MMK episode was roughly around 16 years ago and that Phillip was also her co-star then.

ABS-CBN.com also asked Gretchen about the rumors that have been surrounding her, like the credit card story. The story started when Gretchen and friends Pops Fernandez, Ruffa Gutierrez, Marjorie Barretto, and a non-showbiz girl had dinner at a restaurant in Dusit Hotel in Makati. Gretchen tried to pay the bill using her credit card, which was later declined.

It turns out that La Greta was a victim of a faulty card. "Na-magnet lang. Yun lang. Saka hindi lang naman isang beses nangyari sa akin. Pangatlong beses na, baka nagasgas sa wallet minsan."

According to reports, Gretchen asked the attendant to try swiping the card again, but to no avail. Rumors had it that Gretchen told the attendant, "I own the bank!" to make the point that her card could not have been possibly declined. When asked about this, Gretchen said, “Alam mo naman ang tao, kung ano na lang ang sinasabi. Sana nga. Sana nga sa akin."

While Gretchen was still puzzled over the card being declined, Ruffa joked and said, “Oh my God. Girl, did Tony cut your card?” Gretchen replied, "Siyempre ako, ‘Of course not' ng 'Of course not.' Pero habang nag-o-of course not ako, yung puso ko naririnig ko na nag-du-dug-dug na naku nga, baka totoo nga. Nung gabing yon, tinext ko si Tony ang sabi ko, ‘Did you cut my Visa card? Can you please tell me the truth if you cut my Visa card?’ Nahalata nila ninerbyos ako kasi yung boses ko tumataas na!" she candidly shared.

Tony Boy later arrived at the hotel only to have Gretchen reportedly scold him about what happened. Gretchen refused to talk about Tony Boy’s part in the issue since she wants people to respect his privacy.

Brad And Angelina's Twins Made Honorary Citizens Of Nice

NICE, France — They'll always have Nice.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's soon-to-be-born twins will always be considered honorary citizens of Nice, regardless of whether they opt to obtain French citizenship, the mayor of Nice said Friday.

The Hollywood super couple have chosen the relatively low-key Rivieria city for the birth of their twins, expected within weeks. Jolie has been hospitalized since Sunday in the seaside Lenval hospital, which has a magnificent view of the Mediterranean below. Pitt has been making regular visits, often with some of their children in tow.

"That is for the citizens of Nice a very great honor and a great satisfaction," mayor Christian Estrosi said. "We are very happy for this choice of Mrs. Angelina Jolie and Mr. Brad Pitt and I want to say to them that I wish a lot of joy to them and the babies, and great success for all of their lives."

The mayor affectionately called the twins "two little Nicois."

Being born in France is not enough to confer citizenship. But according to the French Foreign Ministry website, the twins will have the option of obtaining French citizenship when they turn 18 as long as France has been their primary residence for at least 5 years after age 11.

They are allowed to keep both French and American nationalities, so they will never have to choose.

"All their lives they will be Nicois and all their life they will be able to come to Nice and we will receive them with great honor," Estrosi said.

He was waiting eagerly to extend his congratulations on behalf of all the city's residents.

Jolie's doctor said Wednesday that the babies would arrive "within the coming weeks."

Pitt and their four children _ Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; Shiloh, 2 _ have taken up residence in the town of Correns, 60 miles from Nice, in advance of the new arrivals.

Angelina Jolie's Luxe Hospital Suite

As she awaits the birth of her twins, Angelina Jolie chose a hospital that helps the poor – but also comes with a spectacular view. The Fondation Lenval, where Jolie is being monitored, is a 133-bed hospital in Nice, France, that specializes in the care of children and teens. Established in 1884, it has a history of treating children whose parents do not have the resources for medical care. According to local paper Nice-Matin, Jolie is staying in a pre-booked suite of four rooms, each of which go a relatively affordable $200 a night.

The hospital is one of the most modern-looking in the south of France, with a blue glass building fronting the world-famous Promenade des Anglais on the Mediterranean sea. At least half of the rooms overlook the Mediterranean. (Just down the street at the renowned Palais de la Mediterranee hotel, a seaview suite goes for more than $2,300 a night.)

Pregnant Man Gives Birth

Thomas Beatie, the very famous Preganant Man gave birth. For most of you questioning why he did this is because his wife was infertile.

Beatie, 34, who began life as a woman and legally switched to a male identity, while preserving his female reproductive organs, and his wife Nancy, 46, welcomed a daughter at an Oregon hospital on June 29.

Beatie, who took twice-weekly doses of testosterone and had his breasts surgically removed during his female-to-male transition, made headlines around the globe last April when he announced in an exclusive interview in PEOPLE and on The Oprah Winfrey Show that he was expecting a child – while legally living as a man. Raised in Hawaii, he spent the first two decades of his life as Tracy Lagondino, a Girl Scout, former model and finalist in a Miss Hawaii Teen USA pageant. Beatie told PEOPLE that he began to dress and live as a man in his 20s, in time officially changing his gender on his passport and driver's license.

In 2003, he legally married Nancy, a divorced mother of two who had had a hysterectomy as a result of endometriosis. The couple became pregnant using donor sperm and Thomas's eggs, through artificial insemination, after relocating in 2005 to Bend, Ore., where they operate a T-shirting printing business. Their baby girl is Thomas's first child. "The only thing different about me is that I can't breastfeed my baby. But a lot of mothers don't," he told PEOPLE. Despite published reports, Beatie says the baby was not delivered via C-section. He intends to publish a book about his experience this fall.

Review: 'Hancock' turns into a train wreck

Train wrecks are intrinsically spectacular, and Will Smith's new movie offers a doozy. Two of them, in fact.

In the first, Jason Bateman's genial public relations guy Ray is sitting in his car, snarled in traffic and oblivious to the locomotive bearing down on him until it's almost too late.

Fortunately for Ray, John Hancock (Smith) is on the case. Using his Superman-like powers, Hancock flips Ray's car up and over in a neat backward somersault, safely out of harm's way. At the same time he thrusts out his arm and stops the train in its tracks. While Ray is grateful, the guy in the car underneath his isn't so sure -- and the damage to the derailed train stretches back a half-mile or more.

That's the train wreck within the movie. The train wreck that is the movie is even more interesting.

We all know that Will Smith "owns" the July 4 weekend -- so much so, there aren't any other big openings this week (aside from the small-scale "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl," which began in limited release last week). Since "Independence Day" he's virtually become synonymous with Big Summer Fun. And he makes it look so easy, too.

"Hancock" tinkers with that self-confidence a little bit. Apparently immortal and impervious to pain, Hancock fulfills the superhero's brief -- he safeguards the citizenry of Los Angeles -- but he's sunk well below complacency into an alcoholic stew of resentment and contempt for his public. When a young fan stirs him from a drunken stupor to chase some bad guys in the movie's opening scene, Hancock sends him off with an insult: "What do you want, a cookie?"

Later, he picks up an obnoxious kid who has pushed his luck too far and flings him into the stratosphere, catching him 30 seconds later with obvious reluctance.
In short, this is not the agreeable Will Smith we know and love, and even in this summer of edgier, angrier action heroes (see also "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk"), Hancock may be the first full-blown jerk to front a blockbuster. But before you jump to conclusions, this is not the problem with the movie. Though the cynical, adult edge to the comedy may limit the film's audience (it is rated PG-13) it also qualifies as a welcome change. Hancock's reckless heroism -- and the wreckage he leaves in his wake -- inspires the film's funniest stuff (which is why you've probably seen it all in the trailers). Cussing, pulling on a bottle of booze as he chases down bad guys and dressing like a wino, Smith has fun playing against type, and in possibly his best big-screen performance yet, Jason Bateman makes an engaging comic foil. Piolo Pascual keeps his love life private to avoid publicity

"You know what, I'd like to keep it private kasi mahirap na ma-publicize o pag-usapan ng publiko. If I'll get romantically involved, siguro I'll keep it to myself first then we'll see what will happen," saad ng matinee idol.

Right."

"Yun na nga, it was preempted because I spoke too soon," sabi niya. "So I decided kung magkakaroon man ako ng inspirasyon na bago, tatahimik na lang muna ako, let it flow in a natural way.

"As of now, wala pa rin akong love life but I'll just wait for that. When she comes, yun ang magiging priority ko."
ANGEL'S DARING PICTORIAL.

"I can't comment about it but I can say na may karapatan naman si Angel. As the saying goes, ‘If you have it, flaunt it.' It's part of the campaign and magandang-maganda naman yung kuha, hindi naman malaswa o bastos," pahayag ni Piolo.

In two weeks time ay matatapos na ang Lobo, pero siniguro ni Piolo na kaabang-abang ang mga nalalabi pang araw ng pinagbibidahang fantaserye.

"Last two weeks. Maganda, mahirap, nakaka-excite kasi talagang pinaghirapan at ginastusan ng network, and I'm happy about the outcome. I'm so thankful dahil ang daming sumuporta, not just in the Philippines but also in TFC abroad."

Kinumpirma rin ni Piolo na isang pelikula under Star Cinema ang pagsasamahan nila ni Angel right after Lobo.

"We're doing a movie as soon as matapos kami sa Lobo, dire-diretso na kami mag-shoot. I'm going to Paris to attend a filmfest. Pero as soon as I come back, training na ako for the movie, and then diretso na kami ng Bukidnon to shoot," pagtatapos ng aktor.
